I realised yesterday how long it's been since I'd uploaded any new photos....March!! 7mths ago! time surely does fly. I took this photo a while back but recently edited it, I think it was taken in Birmingham, I do actually miss the place, it's where my interest in photography started to grow, I don't know if anyone else feels the same, but for me when I've taken photos of a certain place, theres always a feeling of connection, it's quite hard to explain to be honest but I suppose it gives me a good feeling towards that specific place. One of the many beauties of photography :)

I took these on our recent outing to Barry Island, with 4 kids in tow I didn't manage to get many photos, but I was quite happy with these two. Now that I'm back on the road I want to try and explore Cardiff a bit more with my camera, since I've moved back here I haven't taken many outdoor shots, and have been slowly starting to run out of ideas of what to capture around the home! Hoping to visit Penarth Pier soon, maybe Roath Park, there's some beautiful places here just need to get out and see them!

We've had some gorgeous weather the past couple of days, so yesterday I took the kids out to the park to get some fresh air, it was lovely :) While sitting on the bench relaxing, my daughter brought me some flowers, I only had my iphone, but couldn't resist taking a few pics. Nowadays I prefer using the iphone to take photos, maybe it's the editing I can do there and then, then post and share, hhmmm....

I noticed yesterday that someone had cracked my right wing mirror on the car, I was not happy, especially as a couple of months back a few times we had nails in our tyres. Just the other week also our neighbour had her back window of her car cracked and eventually ended up shattering, so I'm not sure if it's the same person targetting some of the cars here, but whoever it is it makes me really annoyed, these people don't have any respect for other people's property, if it happened to their car, well....probably the whole world would know about it.

But enough ranting for today, the weather's gorgeous again, I want to enjoy my day insha Allaah :D

Well it's a gorgeous day here in Wales, really want to get out with my camera and take some outdoor pics, which I haven't done for ages! but may have to postpone for another day, as my mum may be coming, it's been weeks since she came last, due to her car being off the road.

But before I get off the computer and start tidying like a mad woman, I wanted to share a website I just came across called The Daily Shoot , they post assignments each day on Twitter which after completing you can then upload to one of the photo sharing sites, like flickr for example, and then tweet a link to your photo to share.

The idea is to encourage you - The photographer, to get your camera out and start shooting, as they say 'practice makes perfect!' So I may have a go at this insha Allaah.

Also wanted to share a photo I added some textures to yesterday, it may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I love it, one of the textures I used is 'northern lights' by pareerica, you can find the texture on flick here , I've used it on another photo and I just love the effect it gives, I also used a texture by Kim Klassen. Hope you like it :) ....

Last night I made the decision to display some of my photography in an online gallery and offer my prints for sale. Not long ago a friend suggested I try selling some of my work, I'm not quite at the level I would like to be yet, there's alot to learn and alot more I would like to do with my photography in terms of creativity, but I feel this is a good place to start. I will be adding more of my personal favourites as I go along.

I recently started a texture course by Kim Klassen working with photoshop, I am amazed at what you can do with this programme and I've only just started out. This evening I enrolled on another of Kim's courses 'photoshop essentials' which is going to start on 15th March, and I cannot wait! it's about time I learnt photoshop, and what better way to do it than as part of a group.

I've just got myself an iphone, and downloaded a couple of cool photography apps, namely 'LomoLomo' and 'Instragram' and have managed to capture a few cool shots, like the canon photo I have here on my blog. some of the photos people are uploading on Instragram are amazing.

So here's my first go at a fruit shot, probably not the best, the apple could do with a good shine, but it's a start. I've got back into my photography course which I'm doing with 'proud photography.com' , I've been working on shutter speed and aperture, can be a bit much to digest at first but I'm just experimenting with the camera on different settings, and I'm hoping I'll grasp it soon, insha Allaah.

There's one book I'm thinking of purchasing called 'close to home'....finding great photographs in your own backyard. I recently found a really cool website, called BeFunky.com , it's similar to picnik, but has alot more photo effects available, especially when you upgrade for $24.95 for the year. With the top photo I did some slight editing in picnik, but I experimented with the bottom two at BeFunky. Even though it's easy to just add a photo effect with these kind of websites, I feel like I'm kind of cheating a little, taking a shortcut, I would much prefer to master photoshop, which I'm slowly in the process of trying to do, then I think I will feel much more of an achievement after maybe editing a photo, adding a different effect etc.. when I know I've put my learnt skills into practice.

Masha'Allaah it's amazing how quick this Hyacinth bloomed,when not so long ago it looked like this...

Sadly the flowers on it have all now withered, but I'm hoping there will be new ones growing soon, insha Allaah.

On another note, one resource I'm currently making the most of is the 'School of photoshop', as you can guess by the title, it is of course about 'photoshop'. I've had CS3 for a while now, and have tried the odd tutorial, but became overwhelmed with the huge amount of tools photoshop has to offer.

I like the way this tutorial is broken down, into preschool - Getting started in photoshop, Kindergarten - Using palettes, first grade - photoshop's toolbox, and so on. Last night I started grade 2 :) (just like being back in school :D )which introduced 'Layers' I have dabbled a little with them before, but this really helped me understand alot more how they work, I can't wait to get started on grade 3! insha Allaah 'selection tools'.

Over the last couple of weeks I’ve been writing a series of posts on elements that digital photographers need to learn about in order to get out of Auto mode and learn how to manually set the exposure of their shots. I’ve largely focussed upon three elements of the ‘exposure triangle‘ – ISO, Shutter Speed and Aperture. I’ve previously written about the first two and today would like to turn our attention to Aperture.

Before I start with the explanations let me say this. If you can master aperture you put into your grasp real creative control over your camera. In my opinion – aperture is where a lot of the magic happens in photography and as we’ll see below, changes in it can mean the difference between one dimensional and multi dimensional shots.

What is Aperture?

Put most simply – Aperture is ‘the size of the opening in the lens when a picture is taken.’
When you hit the shutter release button of your camera a hole opens up that allows your cameras image sensor to catch a glimpse of the scene you’re wanting to capture. The aperture that you set impacts the size of that hole. The larger the hole the more light that gets in – the smaller the hole the less light.

Aperture is measured in ‘f-stops’. You’ll often see them referred to here at Digital Photography School as f/number – for example f/2.8, f/4, f/5.6,f/8,f/22 etc. Moving from one f-stop to the next doubles or halves the size of the amount of opening in your lens (and the amount of light getting through). Keep in mind that a change in shutter speed from one stop to the next doubles or halves the amount of light that gets in also – this means if you increase one and decrease the other you let the same amount of light in – very handy to keep in mind). Well, here it is.....my first photo of 2010, as I mentioned in a previous post I've had alot of problems with uploading photos to the computer, I have not been able to pin point where the actual problem lies, it's very complex. So now I've got a new camera alhamdulillaah, another fuji film, but the s200 EXR. The same problem arose earlier when trying to upload this photo, but I somehow sorted it out alhamdulillaah.

Anyway......this pic is of the Anthurium plant, named Love Lady, I love the pink leaves, makes a change from green! Masha'Allaah.

I've had to neglect my photgography somewhat for a while, I've had a problem arise with the memory card on my camera, I can't upload any photos to my computer, even a brand new card I bought recently is having the same problem.

So now I have to send the camera to fuji film to find out the problem, it's quite a complex one, cos they don't even know what it might be.

So I decided to order a new camera, I wasn't too keen on my current one anyway, insha Allaah will sell it on when problem is fixed.

So I really can't wait to start taking some photos again, which I can actually put online and edit etc.. I've missed it, and I need to re-start the online photography course I was doing with proud photography.com.

For now I just wanted to share a photo I took last year, which I had on my flickr but I don't think I'd posted it on here.
